Wallop Burger @ SS2 Petaling Jaya

I have always been a pork burger enthusiast and not too long ago, there's a newly opened Wallop Pork Burger Restaurant at Chow Yang area in SS2 Petaling Jaya. After reading Rebecca's blog post about the place (link here), somehow it had interest me together with my girlfriend to give it a try.

Wallop Burger is located at Chow Yang in SS2, the same row with the newly renovated Ho Ho Sek Food Court and the same place where the Thursday pasar malam takes place.

As I walked in, the ambiance of the place was quite simple with red chairs and white tables. One thing I don't really like is the lighting. It uses too many warm light bulb on a single down light which makes the room a bit too warm and glaring during night time.

Here's the range of Pork Burger that they are offering. As you can see, there's only three types of pork burger, the Mamma Wallop (RM6.50), Papa Wallop (RM9.00) and the Sergeant Wallop (RM12.00).

At the counter, I spotted some very lovely piggies.

At Wallop burger, you can actually customize your own burger. If you like to add bacon, egg, pineapple or extra cheese, you can add them up with a cost.

It takes more than 10 minutes for them to bring our order to our table. Service is a bit slow but at least they send it directly to our table.

A&W Rootbeer, now we can have this here without going to the actual A&W Restaurant. No branding on the cups, fries holder and the burger wraper.

Our 'healthy' Wallop Pork Burgers.

This is the Mamma Wallop (RM6.50), the single patty grilled to mouth watering perfection. It is served with lettuce, tomato, cheese and mayonnaise.

My order - the Papa Wallop (RM9.00). It's the same with the Mama Wallop but it has an additional of a grilled pork patty.

If there's any comment about their Wallop Pork Burger, you can let Sergeant Wallop know and he'll fix it for you! #kidding

WiFi is available but you need to get the password from the staff.

They are open from Monday to Sunday: 11:00 am onward until 10:00 pm.

They are really punctual at closing. There's a 10% off for students who's in school uniform or they can show their student card to them. If you are not a student, don't worry be happy because there's a Happy Hour promotion from 12pm to 5pm. You can get 10% off for all the food! :)

My Verdict: Service was a bit slow since they have very few staff working. It's good to see them promoting healthy pork burger but it tasted something like Ninja Joe. Their interior is simple but I dislike the sharp edges of the table. Their warm light bulbs were too glaring and makes the place a little too warm even at night. Next door is blasting some 'lala' song and they also blast some mainstream songs at the same time makes Wallop Pork Burger restaurant as not a suitable place for chit chat or business discussion. It would be better if they can make the price lower as I can find better and cheaper food around Chow Yang. That's my humble point of view. I'm yet to try Andes and Hungry Hog's pork burger.

Hennessy Privilege Collection NyX Launch Party @ Vertigo, The Gardens!

Hi guys! Do you remember early this month I've blogged about the Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilege Collection NYX Launch Party? It was pretty awesome!!!

We are required to register for this special event by-invitation only at the East Atrium Entrance @ Mid Valley Megamall before we proceed to the secret location.

Registration for the event was supposed to be at 8.00pm. Some of us arrived early so that we could have a quick dinner before heading to the 'Secret Location'. I had a quick dinner with the rest of the bloggers at McDonald which located at the LG floor. After dinner, we made our way back up to the registration counter and were guided by space girls posted along the way to the 'Secret Location'.

Hennessy 'space girls' selling limited edition bottles of the Hennessy NyX at the roadshow. Each bottle is QR coded and numbered, further enhancing the exclusivity of the brand.

It's me and my girlfriend. She's all dressed up with the theme.

The Hennessy 'space girl' identified us as the guest by looking at the hand glove that we were given during the registration. So from Mid Valley, we were lead to the Gardens and then up to this 'secret location' which is the Vertigo club.

The crowd that night was entertained by non other the top DJ in Malaysia, DJ Blink who is no stranger to the club scene in Kuala Lumpur.

The Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilege Collection NYX is definitely a must have for every alcohol collector for the uniqueness of the bottle and being QR coded and numbered, further enhancing the exclusivity of the brand.
As for the party, although the venue was too small for the crowd but at least I enjoyed partying with the bloggers and friends.

From what I've read, the only downside of the new Nikon D4 compared to the Nikon D3s is the amount of shoots can be taken with a full charge of battery. Nikon D3s can take up to 4,200 shots (CIPA) while Nikon D4 can only take 2,600 (CIPA).

The price tag for Nikon D4 estimated at above RM18,000. Hopefully it will be cheaper and price drop for Nikon D3s. I can't wait to try this mean machine at the Nikon Center in Berjaya Times Square in future. Till then... Happy Shooting! :D

My BCard Experience at Krispy Kreme @ Midvalley Megamall

It was a beautiful evening and so my girlfriend and I decided to do our grocery shopping at Carrefour in Midvalley Megamall. We brought along our 'baby hippo' so that he won't feel #foreveralone at home! Indeed it was a pretty good day for us as the weather that evening was not hot and the rain has just stopped. Plus no traffic jam and smooth ride along the way. We reached Midvalley in just about 15 minutes drive.

Before we begin our grocery shopping, we wanted to drop by somewhere to have a light meal to fill up our stomach and food for some energy later. Grocery shopping consume a lot of energy as well ya! Haha! Since I have brought along my BCard so I suggested to go to Krispy Kreme.

Upon reaching we saw this sign in front of the payment counter.

They have a wide range of doughnuts variety and they came out with this mini doughnuts which seems like a good deal for kids and those who's craving for some sweet stuff but don't want to eat too much.

The Cheapest Tablet in the World: Aakash

This is the world's cheapest tablet in India goes on sale for Rs 2500 (less than RM150) online and have received 1.4 million booking. I heard that the demand was too high that they have announced that this tablet has been sold out recently.

The Aakash is an Android tablet computer jointly developed by the London-based company DataWind with the Indian Institute of Technology Rajasthan. It is manufactured by the India-based company Quad, at a new production centre in Hyderabad — under a trial run of 100,000 units. The tablet was officially launched as the Aakash in New Delhi on Oct 5, 2011. A substantially upgraded second generation model called UbiSlate 7+ is projected for manufacture beginning in early 2012.

The 7-inch touch screen tablet features 256 MB RAM memory with the Android 2.3 operating system, has two universal serial bus (USB) ports and delivers high definition (HD) quality video. For applications, the Aakash will have access to Getjar, an independent market, rather than the Android Market.

As a multi-media platform, the Aakash project was beset by delays and setbacks. The device was developed as part of the country's aim to link 25,000 colleges and 400 universities in an e-learning program. Originally projected as a "USD35 laptop", the device will be sold to the Government of India at USD50 and will be distributed at a government subsidized price of USD35. A commercial version of Aakash is currently marketed as UbiSlate 7+ at a price of USD60.

By January 3, 2012 1.4 million online orders for the Aakash had been received.

1.4 million orders for world's cheapest tablet in India

NEW DELHI — The world's cheapest tablet computer has clocked 1.4 million bookings since it was put up for sale online two weeks ago in India, a spokeswoman told AFP on Tuesday.

Bookings for the long-awaited Aakash, pegged at 2,500 rupees ($41), began on December 14, two months after it was unveiled as the "computer for the masses" in India where millions struggle to fund their education.

Datawind, the British company contracted by the Indian government to manufacture Aakash, said it had been taken by surprise by the response in India, where Apple's iPad computers costs a minimum of $600.

"The current response is overwhelming," a spokeswoman at the company's New Delhi PR agency told AFP in an email that detailed the number of bookings made so far.

Datawind is now taking orders for an upgraded version, called Ubislate 7 for March, and it will establish three new factories in 2012 to cope with the rush of orders.

"We plan to produce 75,000 units per factory per month from around April," the spokeswoman said.

The Economic Times in its online edition said the makers had run out of stock of Aakash, which has a seven-inch (18-centimetre) touchscreen, Wi-Fi Internet function, a multimedia player and 180 minutes of battery power.

The business daily said with around 400,000 pre-sales bookings for the Aakash, sales of the device were more than sales for the entire Indian tablet market last year which numbered about 250,000-300,000 units.

The stylish, locally-made Aakash uses an Android 2.2 operating system and has an external 2GB storage card and two USB ports.

Critics had warned the device might struggle to live up to expectations with its limited 256-megabyte random access memory (RAM).

The price of what has been dubbed "the world's cheapest computer" should fall to $35 and could even be hammered down as low as $10, DataWind has said.

The Aakash is part of a push to increase the number of students in higher education and to give them the technological skills needed to further boost the country's recent rapid economic growth.

My conclusion: If we are living in India, we can buy this tablet for less than RM150. Nowadays it's freaking impossible for us even to get a Wi-Fi connectivity phones in Malaysia. So I guess iPad 2 and other tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab should be more affordable since tablets are the latest gadget trend now. Let me know about your thoughts in the comment section.

Fitou Brasserie @ The Waterfront, Parkcity

I know we have now entered the year 2012, nevertheless I am still in the midst of clearing all my pending post. On the 10th of October which was one day before my birthday, I was brought to this 'secret location' to have my birthday dinner by my friends. It was my first time to step foot at The Waterfront as I had mention it before in my past blog entry here.

Fitou Brasserie is a Western cuisine restaurant that opens 7 days a week from 12pm to 1am except Sundays whereby they will only open at 11am for breakfast. For your info, they have happy hour all day long on Sunday.

It was a birthday treat and so I did not have the intention to memorize all the food prices here but I do remember the names.

I prefer to have a glass of fruit juice for dinner instead.

My plate - Pork Burger with Fries (RM18.00)

The pork patty was really tender and well cooked, the melted cheese on top made it yummier and the portion was good enough for me. Still, this pork burger is not the best I've ever tried.

Spaghetti Carbonara is one of the most popular Italian pasta dishes here. This pasta combines cream, eggs, cheese and bacon but one thing which is special about this is the egg yolk. It is very creamy and cheesy but they did not overdo it. Definitely a must try dish in Fitou Brasserie.

Chocolate Fondant, a recommended dessert by my friend. It has a shape of a cup-cake or muffin which has been baked for just a few minutes, thus the inner part of the cake is a liquid. It is served hot and the liquid which is mentioned earlier is actually chocolate but it's not too sweet and has a little bit of dark chocolate taste in it.

Creme Brulee, a dessert where the top is flamed consist of egg yolks, sugar, cream and vanilla extract. It is very enjoyable to eat and it has the custard-like texture. This was also recommended by my friend.

I'm truly grateful and blessed to have friends like Joanna and Evelyn!

Maxvalu, another supermarket under Jusco is one of the attraction at The Waterfront.

Overall, the environment of Fitou Brasserie is good especially when it's facing the park and the lake. The food price might be a bit high but this is a good place to have a drink with buddies with their happy hour promotion. I don't mind coming back to this place to hang out once in a while.

The Waterfront @ Desa Park City

Today is the #lastFridayof2011 and I intended to end my year with a photography blog post. Back in October this year, it was my very first time for me to visit The Waterfront at ParkCity. A few of my friends wanted to celebrate my birthday and they brought me to this 'secret location'.

The Waterfront is a place that filled with a lot of good food places and you can also do your shopping here. There's a dog park and a lake behind it and there's a lot of joggers seen jogging around during evening. It's also a good location for couples to have their pre-wedding photo shoot. I will blog about the 'LouMou' outing and my birthday treat at this place very soon. Below are some of the shots which I've took and I did a little HDR effects on the images. Creativity in Motion @ Publika Square

Three days before Christmas Day, I was invited again to attend the Creativity in Motion fashion show conducted by LimKokWing University of Creative Technology. The event was held in the evening at Publika Square. Before this, I've attended the event which was held not long ago at Bangsar Shopping Center (the link here) and last year it was held in Palm Square, Jaya One (the link here). This term's class of 18 designers from 6 different country will show of their collections drawing from inspiration such as Arabic Abayas, Indian textiles, Japanese Samurais and others adding their contemporary twists.

At the beginning of the event, we were entertained by a few singers which were performed by their very own students of LimKokWing. This is Reena performing the song, 'Louder' by Charice.

'The Wild' theme for this hair show seems to be very unique and the concept was quite directive on bringing the 'wild' animals to be displayed on top of the model's head. They somehow incorporate the design on the model's head with their outfit as well. The face and body art were quite remarkable and it suits the hair design very well.

The event ended with a Christmas song, "All I Want for Christmas". Overall the flow of the fashion show was pretty smooth and it has some good quality in the performances as well as the fashion show.

This time, the graduates shows more effort in their design especially in the concept and textiles. It shows how creative and innovative the graduates in their design. The models were quite experienced too and I can recognize some of the models who had walked the stage for the previous fashion show.

Aunt Christina's Sarawak Laksa @ Lucky Garden Bangsar

I've been wanted to try Aunt Christina's Sarawak Laksa since a very long time after reading some of the food review blog post and my Sarawakian friends in KL who actually recommended this place one of the best Sarawak Laksa to be found in KL area.

Located at Lucky Garden in Bangsar, this little stall takes a part of Nam Chuan Coffeeshop. They have other choices such as economy rice, Penang prawn mee, pan mee and of course the Sarawak Laksa.

Laksa Sarawak (Small RM6.50 / Big RM7.00)

A bowl of Sarawak Laksa to cure my cravings. On top of the bee hoon, you can find the 2 fresh prawns, some chicken meat strips, bean sprouts, omelette strips and coriander leaves. In my opinion, the laksa gravy was pretty rich and the flavour was almost similar to the one I had back in Kuching a few months back but the bean sprouts was a little too much that every single bite I had to chew the bean sprout more than the noodle itself. The prawn was too raw as well, the laksa gravy wasn't hot enough to make it less raw. It was too pricy too. I guess maybe the rental in Bangsar cost more than places like PJ or the owner purposely increase the price just because some famous celebrity went to eat at the stall before and it was on the newspapers.

Malaysian Girls - The Year's Most Glamorous Musical

Hi guys! Today is Boxing Day and I know many Malaysians actually don't really know what it is all about. In the calendar, it is a day after Christmas Day which is on the 26th of December every year.

It is a bank or public holiday that occurs, or the first or second weekday after Christmas Day, depending on national or regional laws. It is observed in the United Kingdom, Australia,Canada, New Zealand, and some other Commonwealth nations (and this does not include Malaysia - how sad!).

Anyway, in this entry I will be talking about a local musical production which is still on going until the 30th of December 2011. After attending Aladdin the Musical at Sunway Lagoon on the previous week, thanks to Dustyhawk, a few of us bloggers got to catch this Musical at KLPAC on its Opening Night. KLPAC is proud to present their last major theatrical musical for 2011, Malaysian Girls.

Malaysian Girls is the product of an award-winning team led by esteemed director Joe Hasham OAM along with producer and theatre doyenne Dato’ Faridah Merican.

The Synopsis:

Malaysian Girls tells the tale of the goings-on behind the scenes of a beauty pageant called "Malaysian Girls". MALAYSIAN GIRLS lures you into the exciting world of a beauty pageant. The heady mix of glamour and talent is enticing in itself. Throw in the drama that unfolds when there is such a coveted title to be won and such differing notions of beauty together with Mark Beau de Silva’s humorous writing, you are in for an absolute treat.

The musical pits two camps against each other. On one side you have Serenity Billion – the person who started the Malaysian Girls pageant to seek and define a uniquely Malaysian ideal of beauty. On the other side you have the flashy Ray Sanjay and the go-getting Jasmin Hibiscus who has bigger and bolder ideas. So, just how ugly can it get?

Miss Tabitha Kong, the very first time I saw her on stage was during the Drunk before Dawn production back in KK Sabah. It was really good and helping out through out the production gave me a great experience.

My Verdict:

The mixture of the mainstream songs and the songs that they composed by themselves actually did work very well although some of the songs which they composed was quite boring but at least the song selections and the meanings were linking with the storyline. The live band was playing some of the music live at the back of the stage which I think it's a very good effort but being said that, the whole design of the stage doesn't dazzled me at all since there's no element of surprise and it's too static.

I guess it would be better if all the girls were really pretty. Maybe I was born and grew up watching the actual 'beauty' pageant so I can't accept those who participated in this Malaysian Girls were fat, old and ugly. I know they have some intentions behind all that but little did I know, I still prefer watching a musical with a bunch of really good looking people. Anyway, every single one of them are really talented, they can sing and dance well.

This is the part which I like the most, it is in the very first half whereby one of the actor actually did a rap in Cantonese and somehow it reminds me of LMF but in a very local Malaysian style! Poor angmoh audience, I hope they understand it because it was really funny.

My Conclusion:
I would rate this as 6/10. I would rate this musical higher if they can cut short some of the dances with the mainstream songs. They should just dance a part of the song instead of the whole song and it had become quite draggy. I was quite entertained with Jasmin Hibiscus's sarcastic statements through out the show and I think that she's the most Malaysian among all the actors and actresses.

Christmas Eve @ Uncle Chili's

Just a few more days to Christmas, have you plan your Christmas eve dinner with your family, close friends or even just with your love ones? If you are still looking for a great place that has resident DJ and live band at the same time they serve some pretty good food to dine with, you might want to consider heading to Uncle Chili's at Hiton Petaling Jaya.

Amuse Bouche - Goose Liver Terrine with Port Wine Reduction.
By far it was my first time to have tasted the goose liver. The texture of this goose liver was very smooth, creamy and it has a 'goosy' taste in it. The sweet sauce blends well with the goose liver, it's a very unique dish I must say.

While we were waiting for the other courses to be served, they prepared us with some bread with butter in case we got too hungry waiting.

Next up we had the Appetizer... "To Begin..." - Ravioli filled with Alaska Crab in Lobster Bisque.
Ravioli is actually a traditional type of Italian filled pasta. They are composed of a filling sealed between two layers of thin egg pasta dough and are served either in broth or with pasta sauce but this one is served in Lobster Bisque. The outer layer of the Ravioli gives me the impression of 'sui qiao' or Chinese dumpling.

The Lobster Bisque is very creamy and tasty that I just had to finish it by dipping the bread on it.
It's not easy to get the Alaska Crab or also known as the King Crab in the market and it normally being sell at a very high price.

Soup "A Few Spoonfuls..." - Porcini Mushroom and Truffle Soup with Melted Camembert.

At first when I read out the name of this dish from the menu, I thought they might really going to serve us just a few spoonfuls of soup but it turns out to be the right portion for us but still it has the capability to makes us crave for more!

The content of the Porcini Mushroom in this soup was really rich and the Melted Camembert blends in with the Truffle soup nicely. This soup was my personal favorite.

As for our Main Course "Harmony..." - Turkey Roulade with Brussels Sprout. Baby Carrots and Rosemary Potatoes. What's a Christmas Eve dinner without turkey meat as the main course. The slices of Turkey Roulade was quite generous and it's wise to ask the staff to pour more sauce on top as I prefer my turkey to be less dry. The sauce is cooked with Thyme herd and sprinkled with black pepper.

Dessert "Lasting Impression..." Chocolate Bomb with Wild Berries.
The presentation of this dessert attracts everyone's attention and we realized that we waited too long for this because it takes some time to make the presentation. What about the taste? If you like chocolate, then you will like this a lot. The Chocolate Bomb is soft, the inside is creamy and rich with chocolate taste.

There's a surprise hidden inside this Chocolate Bomb for you to find out!

A cup of hot coffee to end the course.
If you are not a fan of coffee, you can choose to have tea instead.

My glass of complimentary Grande Reserve 'Gosset' champagne.

Red Sparkling Mocktail - Strawberry juice, soda water, grenadin syrup and sago balls.

Green Sparkling Moctail - Lime juice, Sprite, mint leave, lemon wedges, soda water, grenadin syrup and sago balls.

The staff also recommended some of their best seller mocktail in Uncle Chili's...

The Walking Stick - Apple juice, lime juice, cranberry juice and strawberry puree.

Aunty Special - Consist of ground ginger, ginger ale, whipping cream, grenadine syrup and strawberry puree.

The bar and dine concept of Uncle Chili's makes it a very good place for customers to enjoy their food or cocktail and listen to the music by their resident DJ and live band.

This 4-course Christmas Eve set dinner is priced at RM120++ per person inclusive a glass of complimentary champagne. Overall, I think the food served was pretty good. The presentation of every dishes was very well done. If you can't take alcohol, they are kind enough to switch it with mocktail. Some might say that the price might be a little too pricy but for me to have dine in a hotel with good food and nice environment. Why not?

J Tean Kitchen at SS2 Mall

A few days ago, my elder sister came to PJ all the way from Singapore as she had plan to go for a trip in Penang with my younger sister. It was a surprise to me as I wasn't being informed before hand about her trip but nevertheless we won't miss the chance to meet up, spend time and have a good meal together. I suggested that we should go for lunch at SS2 Mall since it's easier to find parking especially during lunch hour. Most probably I wanted to experience myself the taste of the Bak Kut Teh Burger which I heard to be pretty good offered by J Tean Kitchen located in that particular shopping mall.

J-Pork Burger (RM7.90) which sounded like J-Pop Burger instead. The thickness of the patty feels ok compared to some other pork burger which I had, this one slightly more generous. The sauce which I believe had the herbal ingredients from Bak Kut Teh blended in very well with the pork patty. Looking at the price, it's really affordable since it comes with a few slices of potato wedges.

Seriously, it was my second time visiting this mall and I did not know many eatery places there but J Tean Kitchen is one of the most recommended restaurant in SS2 Mall.

The second dish we had is J-Porky Bun (RM16.90). Similar to the J-Pork Burger, the bun which they use was actually Chinese steamed bun and the patty was twice the size. I really enjoy eating the Chinese steamed bun, it reminds me of the days where I actually can only get to eat the deep friend buns during special occasions in those Chinese restaurants.

The J-Porky Pie (RM19.90). The outer layer that looks like a extra large pastry tasted just like the roti tissue without sugar added and it's crispy.

The filling inside mainly pork meat with sweet soya sauce with spices. In my opinion, I would not order this as my main course but it's good to order as side dishes and share it with your fellow makan partner.

Curry Ribs Pasta (RM19.90). The girls like this one the most and they just spoon out the big piece of pork rib and slowly enjoy it until the last bite. We dipped the left over buns from the burger into the curry and it tasted so good...

J Green Tea + Honey Longan (RM2.80). We ordered two of this. The taste was really refreshing, not too sweet and it soothes our throat during the hot weather. This is just what I wanted to have together with the pork burgers.

We chose to sit outside the restaurant since it's more airy.

The Chinese style bench with a red layer cushion, can fit up to three average size person.

Chritsmas is near, SS2 Mall didn't want to miss out from decorating the mall with a Christmas tree but seems like they don't really have a lot of budget to decorate.

Total damage was RM75.30 inclusive of government tax and service charge.

Overall, we all love the food, the taste is good and the price wasn't too expensive since it was our first time to try their delicious Bak Kut Teh burger. I won't go back for the J-Porky Pie though. Besides that, I also like their simple and clean Chinese style interior. A nice hang out place to have good food and tea in SS2 Mall. To sum it up, it sure looks like DiGi is offering a cheaper price over the span of 24 months for all the plans. The benefit of signing up with DiGi is if you tend to exceed your data quota usage, DiGi will not charge you extra instead, your speed will be throttled. Maxis on the other hand will charge you Rm0.05/10KB, maximum charge at RM250.

This is just a summary of course. What you choose will depend on your own usage and how much coverage you get – on a personal note, DiGi does not have any 3G connectivity in my in-law’s home town and I’m not happy about its almost unusable Edge and GPRS speed. Additionally, the price above for DiGi is calculated based on the monthly payment after autobilling rebate of RM5/month. If you do not have any credit card, you’ll have to pay an extra RM120 over the span of 24 months.

So now Celcom, Malaysia is eagerly waiting to see what you have to offer.

Overall, their gelato taste good and healthy since they only use natural and genuine ingredients. Having said that, it's good to have them once in a while but if I would to pay almost 10 bucks just for a gelato on a stick then it can be too costly for me. Personally I'm not a fan of gelato or froyo and so I would still prefer to go to Baskin Robbins to have my ice-cream on Pink Day! Hehe...

Bubble Tea has been quite a awhile in the food and beverages industries in Malaysia. Originated in Taiwan in the early 1980’s and is now the hottest drink to hit Taiwan since coffee and soft drinks. As the name suggests, Bubble Tea is tea based mixed with different fruit flavorings with or without milk. Bubble Teas are often shaken well for good all-round tastes. From my experience, it has never come to my mind that a bubble milk tea franchise can last so long until this very day, Yippee Cup is exactly the one which I am talking about.

The top mousse of this drink is actually a type of milk but it taste salty, combining the sweetness of the chocolate, it balanced up the drink and some of us really enjoyed this unique drink.

Lemon Milk Tea with Ramen – RM5.90
This fruity milk tea might be too sour for some but it's unique in a way that the fragrance of this drink actually attracts me to drink more. The ramen is something like cendol (sago flour worms) but it's more chewy, this is something that worth trying.

Coconut Green Bean Blended - RM7.90

The top is the green bean floating above the coconut blended. A very unique mixture and it somehow tasted like cendol but in a milder taste. I personally recommend this to all of you.

Waffo

Chocolate and Peanut Butter Waffo – RM4.00

The price for this waffle might seems to be a bit pricy but so far this was the best waffle which I had in KL/PJ area. The texture was crispy and every single bite can taste the very compacted dough-based cake and I don't felt cheated to have to pay for that amount of money.

Nowadays, I often being invited to Taiwanese dessert and bubble milk tea outlet to do a review for them. Since this franchising business is trending now and so many such outlets are blooming in the market day by day, the drinks, desserts and snacks prices offered are slightly too costly for me to go back to those outlets every single week. So when I was invited to do a review in Cup-Bon, I told myself that it's just another overpriced bubble milk tea outlet which I can easily find nearby my place and this newly opened outlet is located so far away but somehow I was wrong. This latest concept Cup-Bon branch is opened at Low Yat Plaza and they offer a HEALTHY & QUALITY style of Asian's world new tea drinks culture to the customers in Malaysia.

Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia

There are times that I wonder if some of you out there has your own preference in choosing the place where to get your food supplies and groceries. When I was still staying in Labuan, my parents always brought me to Milimewah or Labuan Supermarket to buy the daily goods that we wanted. Now, as I'm staying in Petaling Jaya, I prefer to go to Tesco for its cheaper value goods. I guess some of you might prefer other hypermarket like Jusco, Carrefour, Giant, MyDin Cold Storage etc..

In this entry, I will not be talking about a new or current hypermarket which you can find in Klang Valley but it is about this new mini mart which is called the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia. It's a new project supported by the government to supply goods with lower price than the one that you can find in any hypermarket. They labelled themselves as a convenience store but I believe not many of this store has is yet to be opened widely in Klang Valley.

I found that the government idea's of opening this store in LRT station was a really smart move since they do not need to put so much effort in advertising and marketing just to draw the crowd to go the store and purchase their goods. Somehow I believe it does affect some of the business which has been running even before this Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia has been establish there.

Walking towards the exit of the station, you'll found 7 Eleven and Guardian on your right and myNEWS.com right in front of you while the Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia is downstair.

So what do they actually sell in this newly established Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia?

They do offer almost the same thing just like any other convenience store like 99 Speedmart, KK Super Mart etc but they might have a wider range of goods thanks to the 1Malaysia branding of goods.

The price for every 1Malaysia branding of goods are way cheaper compared to any other brand. Why is so? I guess since the government is supporting this project, so most probably they waived the tax or with other kinds of manner just to make sure that the prices will be way cheaper.

So how cheap is cheaper?

Let's say, a bottle of Kimball Chili Sauce selling for RM2.40 and Life Chili Sauce, one of the lower quality brand selling for RM1.80 and guess how much this 1Malaysia Chili Sauce selling for?
It's only RM1.50! OMG... that's 30cents cheaper so it's really really cheap but I really have no idea how it will taste like. It won't taste very bad-lah!

So is this one of the government's tactic to fish for more votes for the next election?
I didn't get to buy all the things that I wanted in this store and I think they put too many of the 1Malaysia branding products in the store and customers has no choice but to buy them instead of the brand that they desired. Plus their 1Malaysia packaging looks really awful, maybe that's how they actually can cut the production cost. I also found that their shopping basket is very dirty, I can see all the black colored dirt at the bottom of each basket and that makes me disgusted to even to pick it up. There's only one thing I can compliment about this store is that they have 2 active payment counter and the staff working there were quite efficient.

By the way, Kelana Jaya LRT station provide free shutter bus to One Utama for every One Card holder. I think Ikano Power Center or IKEA is doing the same too but need to go across the road through the pedestrian bridge to wait for the shutter bus.

In conclusion, I still prefer to go to 99 Speedmart which is pretty near my house - walking distance only. Their goods prices are slightly more expensive than Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia or even to some hypermarket but I can save more money and time from driving out and to look for a parking lot.

As for the most important reason is, they sell booze and pork!

7aste After Party!

This entry is not related to any of the 7aste event which was happening at Laundry Bar last Friday. A few of us (bloggers) decided to go for supper at a nearby mamak, Nasi Kandar Spring in Palm Spring Damansara after the 7aste event which ended at 12am. I reached the mamak place around 12.30am and we waited for the rest to arrive.

"Hey Ken, are you okay? Are you drunk? Or you just pretend to fall asleep to avoid talking to the person next to you?" I wonder who that is... hahaha... xD

Aladdin The Musical (Review)

Not too long ago, I wrote a pre-write up for the Aladdin The Musical and in return, I get to catch the musical live on the 2nd of December. Once again the musical was held at the Amphitheatre @ Sunway Lagoon and from my past experience, it was a shitty journey to walk from the main entrance to the Amphitheatre. This time the buggy was more efficient compared to last time and so we manage to reach the venue in a shorter time.

Before I continue on to the rest of the review, to those of you who have bought the tickets to watch this musical, I strongly advise that you should skip this because this review contain a lot of spoilers and pictures taken during the musical. If you really really want to read, then it's all up to you.

The fairy from the Sultan's ring.

At the beginning of the musical, there was a plot where a guy with his Arabian outfit came out wounded and went to the tiger mouth shaped magic cave of wonder. Audience might be confused by his appearance because the lighting during that time was too dimed and many did not know if the musical has actually started or not. Then followed a brief introduction by the fairy wearing a Pope-like hat.

The story takes place in a city of Arab and the musical itself lacking of introduction and it seems that there's a bit of a rush. Maybe it's because of the scene where Aladdin was being chased by the Arabian guards at the marketplace. The usage of real animals like chickens and goats somehow caught the attention of the audience and as for me it's the first time to see the characters in the musical chasing over some real chickens on stage.

Aladdin, the prince of the street?

The Sultan and his only beloved daughter, Princess Jasmine. The Sultan was worried that his daughter will marry a normal person instead of getting married to a prince and so he seek help from his advisor, the evil Ja'far.

Ja'far then hypnotized the Sultan, stole his ring and ordered him to do as command. Sounds familiar?

From the picture above, Ja'far's outfit might be too fancy and he looks a little bit like Captain Jack Sparrow with the voice of Gargamel the evil sorcerer, the sworn enemy of the Smurfs.

Princess Jasmine ran away and ended up in the market place and somehow saved Aladdin from the Arabian guards. I guess somehow the princess was kind of attracted to the good looking thief.

Ja'far captured Aladdin after he found out that he has became super close with the princess but the sorcerer's real motive is to persuade Aladdin to retrieve a wonderful oil lamp from a booby-trapped magic cave of wonder.

Aladdin entered the cave as commanded by Ja'far.

Aladdin found the magic lamp which Ja'far wanted in the cave.

Shockingly there was a genie inside the magic lamp, what's new? LOL
The genie was the most entertaining character of all. There's some mainstream songs like 'I Kissed a Girl', 'All the Single Lady' etc played every single time this hip hop Genie concept appears out of the magic lamp.

This was the highlight in the second half of the musical, a group of people came out in a parade with Prince Aladdin and Genie.

They put up some fire blowing performances which was pretty awesome.

I think this guys might be the best act in the entire musical and they don't even need to sing at all!

The audience cheered as the KLCC tower appeared at the background. I wasn't really concentrating at them at all... haha...!

This is the scene that I hated the most in this musical, the dual between Aladdin and Ja'far in slow motion was like kids playing battle with swords. The lamest part is where Aladdin got himself with a light-saber (from Starwars) and it didn't even help him to win against Ja'far.

Every fairy tales and stories had its happy ending and so does Aladdin the Musical.

From what I've experienced, the storyline followed almost every single plot from the Disney's Aladdin.

It would be good if they can include Abu, the monkey character, a pet/friend of Aladdin in the musical but I know it's hard to train a monkey but it's not impossible. The singing and dancing weren't as good as the previous Magical Musical but overall it's entertaining with some element of surprises in it. I would recommend family with kids to watch this musical.

Aladdin The Musical will be playing at the Amphitheatre @ Sunway Lagoon starting from November 25th, 2011 until January 2nd 2012. The musical will show once a day, from Sunday to Friday at 8:00pm (no show on Tuesdays), and twice on Saturdays at 7:15pm and 9:15pm with extra shows on 25th December 2011 (Sunday) and 1st January 2012 (Sunday) at 7:15pm and 9:15pm.

Ticket prices range from RM300, RM250, RM200 and RM100 for adults and RM150, RM120, RM100, and RM50 for children up to 12 years old.

Another Bloggers Gathering @ Coffee Chemistry Signature

It has been a while since the last Inniters Gathering group in Facebook has organized an official gathering after the previous Lou Sang gathering which is held early this year before Chinese New Year, my blog entry here. So this time I daringly to organize a gathering without knowing how many will turn up and the gathering took place at Coffee Chemistry Signature which located at a new mall First Subang in SS15 Subang Jaya.

Coffee Chemistry Cafe which is located in Sunway Giza is the first cafe in Malaysia serving world's finest coffee (Graffeo) and now with their second branch, Coffee Chemistry Signature, Subang peeps can now enjoy the coffee conveniently. At the same time, they serve yummy-licious food with their own very own define recipe which has been customized. They also emphasize on food freshness and quality to serve to their customer.

Overall, it gives me a very comfortable and classy experience compared to the one in Sunway Giza.

A Teochew Date at Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant

I'm always very excited to try new food and sometimes I get to experience the different type of taste and also the food culture from different race, country or even style. In this entry, I will be introducing a Teochew cuisine at the Zuan Yuan Chinese Restaurant in One World Hotel.

Teochew cuisine is particularly well known for its seafood and vegetarian dishes and is commonly regarded as being healthy. Its use of flavouring is much less heavy-handed than most other Chinese cuisines and depends much on the freshness and quality of the ingredients for taste and flavour. A selection of Teochew dishes has been specially prepared by Chinese Master Chef Michael Chew and available in a set menu.

In the set menu, savour delicious creations such as this Duo Combination Teochew Style “Steamed and Deep-Fried Fen Guo”

Its ingredient contain the water chestnut, mushroom, peanuts and other vegetables.

I'd cut the outer skin to show what's inside the “Shi Liu Guo” :)
It's very tasty and to me, this is a very unique delight in Chinese Cuisine.

Steamed Leather Jacket Fish with Garlic, Ginger and Teochew Sauce

The fish is spicy and fresh but I find that the texture of the fish meat is not soft enough, maybe I'm not used to having Leather Jacket Fish.

There's an option of choosing either braised rice noodle or fried rice.

Braised Rice Noodle with Assorted Seafood. I would prefer this over the fried rice for the seafood but the noodles might be too little portion for my liking.

Fried Rice with Olive Vegetable

We ended our meal with the dessert, Sweetened Yam Paste which has the gingko nuts, sliced pumpkin and sugar water with a small amount of citrus taste in it.

Every table displays their very nice sets of eating utensils provided by Zuan Yuan.

BlackBall Original Taiwanese Tea & Dessert

Dear Taiwanese dessert lovers! Have you heard about this new taiwanese dessert shop called the Blackball? If you are staying around Subang SS15 or always hang out at Asia Cafe in Subang, I'm sure you won't miss this particular shop. It was back in the year 2006 where Blackball first started and it has bloomed up in a very short time standing as one of the biggest dessert chains in Taipei with over 20 outlets and still expanding. Now, we can all have experience the awesome and original Taiwanese tea and dessert at the first BlackBall outlet in Malaysia which is located in Subang SS15 as I had mention earlier.

Red Bean Ice with Barley and Lotus Seed (RM6.50) add Sky Pearl (RM1.00)

The owner claimed that they use only handmade taro balls with natural ingredients, promising every customer that it is the most chewy taro balls have ever tasted.

By combining the various type of Original Taiwanese Tea selections with the dessert, customers can either choose to have a light drink or to have a bowl of icy cold or hot but refreshing dessert in Blackball.

The owner explained that their 'Xian Cao' is the finest quality 'Xian Cao' imported directly from Guan Xi, producing top notch quality 'Xian Cao' tea and grass jelly, it gives the heavenly taste we will never find in other dessert chains... literally they all tasted the same to me! xD

I personally ordered this because of the name which attracted me,

Jiu Fen Taro Ball Crushed Ice (RM6.50). I guess the variety of toppings tasted pretty well but the crushed ice wasn't smooth enough. As it melts, it gets harden and quite difficult to bite on.

Grass Jelly Hot with Green Bean and Barley (RM6.50)

Their tea, nlike others, the tea they serve/use is freshly brewed on site everyday. For every four hours they will change their high quality tea leaves to serve every customer with the freshest and the finest tea. I personally like the 3Q Passion Fruit Green Tea the most... RM5.90 per cup with toppings.

What I like most about Blackball is their Taroballs and Black Pearl. Price wise, quite competitive and of course they are way better than ZenQ!

What they can improve on is, their crushed ice and also maybe the size of the bowl. When the crushed ice melted, it seems to be almost overflow.

Although the famous Snowflake is just right beside them but their winning point is that the location of this floor is ground floor and most family members and elder people would rather settle down at Blackball instead of taking the stairs up to Snowflake.

By the way, there's one branch opening soon at Sri Petaling so watch out for their special promotion!

Onde Onde at Waterfront @ Desa Parkcity

It was a long weekend and maybe the fact that Monday was included, some of the people that I know went back to their hometown and some went for a short trip. Anyway, I had no where to go during the weekend beside meeting up with some bloggers at a gathering, I was being invited for a food tasting session at this local cuisine restaurant which is called onde onde.

I know some of you might have heard about the place called Waterfront at Desa Parkcity, onde onde is located at one of the shoplots and it focuses on bringing scrumptious Nyonya and local delights to residents in the neighboring housing areas. Placing strong emphasis on delivering great taste and food quality are the business’ laurels. onde onde believes that when serving local food to the Malaysian public, one has to deliver results, by surpassing consumer expectations as Malaysians know their food well. Upon our arrival, we were welcomed by Muiz, the restaurant manager for onde onde.

As we settled down on our seats, the staff instantly served us this hot coffee (RM2.80).

The aroma of the coffee reminded me of the coffee in my hometown and the taste was not too sweet but good enough to cure my caffeine cravings. The onde onde’s ground coffee which is sourced from a traditional family roster in Ipoh is one of their highlight ingredient.

Iced coffee (RM2.90). Surprisingly the price for this cold drink is only 10cent more than the hot one.

Anyway, I would prefer the hot one than cold :)

This is Japanese Cucumber Sour Plum Juice (RM5.90) which reminded me of the Soya Cucumber drink that I had at Buddy Smoothies not long ago. This one had sour plum with it and it's purely refreshing!

With an extensive food list and 20 Nyonya ‘kuih-muih’ varieties, a specially-designed combo sets allows consumers to taste 2 food items at any time and it comes paired with side dishes, and a complimentary Nyonya kuih.

Purple Angku - 2pc (RM2.50) which has green bean fillings in it.

Grilled Toast with Duck Egg Kaya & Butter (RM2.80). The toast was quite soft and easy to bite unlike the one that I had in other coffee shops and the kaya taste suits my taste bud. The uniqueness of this toast is its ‘kaya’ which wass home-made, using a traditional recipe of duck-eggs, fresh coconut milk and ‘Gula Melaka’ as key ingredients. It involves 7 hours of continuous and gentle stirring to prevent the ‘kaya’ from over-caramelizing or cuddling.

Amongst onde onde’s best sellers, are its Assam Laksa and Prawn Noodles (‘Mee Yok’) which are family recipes passed down generations and is now available to onde onde customers.

Signature Assam Laksa (RM9.90). The taste was wonderful, it has the similar taste with the Penang Assam Laksa which I had not long ago and it has a piece of mackerel fish hidden inside the bowl.

Prawn Mee (RM9.90). The presentation of this bowl of prawn noodles was actually quite good and the taste was good as well especially the soup but I prefer if it can be less salty.

Combo B (RM15.90), a combination of a plate of Special Fried Rice, a bowl of Curry Laksa comes with 2 side dishes and 1 piece of Nyonya kuih.

Signature onde onde Durian Dessert (RM7.90), if you love durian and cendol then this is a must try!

Customers surely be attracted to its striking pink and turquoise walls which are lined with antique Nyonya pottery, porcelain and decorative. Nyonya folk painting is also featured prominently on wall murals and furniture, giving the restaurant a cosy and alluring ambiance.

Overall, all the food that I had in onde onde was above average of my expectations but I guess the owner might wanna consider to lower down the price a little so that customer can eat happily without concerning about the size of their wallet.

Umami Steamboat Restaurant at Dataran Mentari

A few days ago, I wrote a blog entry about Nagomi Shabu-Shabu Buffet. This round I'm going to blog about a Chinese hot pot restaurant which I was invited to for food tasting by Karen. This is not any ordinary hot pot restaurant that we can easily find anywhere and so let me tell you why this particular hot pot restaurant is worth going for.

They have a super huge signboard at the restaurant. It wasn't that hard to look for this restaurant but this is the only place that still open along the stretch of shoplots and it's not visible from the main entries of the smaller roads. Anyway, it should be fine if you are familiar with the roads in Dataran Mentari.

They serve fresh seafood, noodles, vegetables, etc...

Not to forget that they also serve fried food and some salad at the side for customers to munch on while waiting for the food to be cooked in the hot pot.

We had HK Herbal Soup and Fish Head Soup side by side in the hot pot on our table. You can also choose different soup base which is the Umami Chicken Soup, Thai Tomyam Soup and Umami Pepper Soup.

Dump everything inside, then we cover it with the lid and wait for it to boil.

Cooling down the throat with eight different selections of ice cream for dessert after the very filling hot pot meal!

The price is RM26.80+ all-you-can-eat buffet. Kids & Senior Citizen Half Price.

Operation hours is from 5pm - midnight everyday.

Overall, it was quite satisfying with so many different choices of food and it's value for money. The best thing that I found was that we can have 2 different soup in the same pot instead of one. I tried 4 out of 5 soup in Umami and the best was the HK Herbal Soup. The Thai Tomyam Soup was actually quite thick but too salty for my liking. Hope the next visit, I'll get to try their Umami Pepper Soup.

Mexican Christmas at Frontera Sol of Mexico‏

Yeah I know this might be too early since it's only November right now...

Yes Santa, we all know it's November!

Anyway, in this blog entry I'll be introducing this very special Christmas Eve & Day Set Dinner Menu by Frontera Sol of Mexico‏. I know most of you are searching around for a good place to plan for a Christmas dinner with family or close friends and so you might want to consider this place.

So let's see what Frontera Sol of Mexico has to offer in this Christmas Eve & Day Set Dinner Menu.

As for starter, customers are given two choices. The first one is the Traditional Tamales.

This Traditional Tamales is steamed cooked in banana leaf wrapping with the choice of Chicken or Beef. This is like the traditional Chinese glutinous rice that we had during the Winter Solstice Festival.

The next starter is the Roasted Butternut Squash Soup with Sage Pesto.

This soup was sweet but full of the butternut taste but somehow it tasted similar like Pumpkin Soup.

As for the main course, we get to choose one out of 4 options but I will only be showing the 2 options in this blog entry.

This is the awesome Mesquite Smoked Turkey with Cranberry Chipotle Relish, Jalapeno Corn Bread Dressing, Candied Sweet Potatoes & Broccoli Florets Topped with Chili Con Queso. I really enjoyed eating the Turkey and the relish was really appetizing as well as the other side dishes.

Next main course is the Veracruz-style Baked Fish with Mexican Rice, Sonora Vegetables with Epazote. The fish was very fresh and well cooked with the sauce and the vege with Mexican rice were great combination in this course.

The other 2 options are the Home-made Puebla-style Turkey Mole with Herb Roasted Potatoes & Grilled Vegetables and BBQ Beef Ribs (additional RM 15++) with Mashed Potatoes & Sonora Vegetable. Do try them as well and let me know how the taste go! :D

It's time for part where many ladies out there are waiting for.... the desserts!

It comes with 2 options, you get to choose this Peach Tres Leches Cake or...

...the Keylime Pie. This particular dessert filled with sweet and grainy graham cracker crust, a creamy and tangy lime flavored filling, and is topped with a soft and fluffy whipped cream makes me crave for more until this very day!

As for drinks, we can have either the Sangria (alcoholic) or the Watermelon Agua Fresca (non alcoholic).

Watermelon Agua Fresca (non alcoholic) is pretty refreshing and surely will quench your thirst away especially after a hard working day.

Sangria (alcoholic), this alcoholic punch consists of a wine, chopped fruit, a sweetener, and a small amount of added brandy.

Nagomi Shabu-Shabu Buffet @ Menara Hap Seng

It was a few weeks ago when I was given a privilege to try out the Nagomi Shabu-Shabu Buffet which is newly launched by Nagomi Japanese Restaurant which is located at Menara Hap Seng in Kuala Lumpur. Some of you might not be familiar with the term 'shabu-shabu' so let me briefly tell you what it is all about. Shabu-shabu, syabu-syabu, hot pot or also known as steamboat a way of cooking your own fresh food in a big pot of hot soup. What's so different about this Japanese variation of the hot pot compared to the one we normally had in a Chinese hot pot restaurant is that each customers will get their own hot pot for preference and also hygiene purposes I supposed. If you do not eat lamb or any other meat/seafood, you can choose not to dump it into the hot pot. You can dump in anything or whatever you want! That's the best thing to experience when you are having shabu-shabu.

Let me tell you a funny story, this live mini lobster was actually still moving around (as seen in the picture above). So when I dumped it inside the hot pot, the mini lobster reacted and I actually splashed by a few drops of soup from the hot pot xD true story!

So the second picture is the mini lobster resting inside a bowl of nice hot soup! :D

My comments: What I can say is that they have quite a wide range of fresh seafood and the restaurant is pretty comfortable but it will be good if they provide bigger plates for the customer to take the food and also ice-cream is a plus as dessert. :)
