Contagion (2011) Movie Review

Thanks to this premiere screening courtesy of The Star and a friend who invited me, Daniel. I was honored to get to watch this movie two days before the official screening which is on the 8th of September, 2011. This show is starred by many well known cast and from the trailer that I've seen, this is not a typical virus-zombie-killing movie like Resident Evil, Zombieland, etc.

Cast & Crew
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Writer: Scott Z. Burns
Stars: Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and more...

Storyline
An action-thriller centered on the threat posed by a deadly disease and an international team of doctors contracted by the CDC to deal with the outbreak.

Spoilers
A loving father, Mitch Emhoff who's wife and youngest child die in the very first case in America. The wife is actually the disease carrier which she got from Hong Kong and before she died, she was sleeping with another man. The father did not get angry with the wife but still loves her in every way. After getting infected from his wife, he fell sick but got healed after a few days knowing that he's actually immune to the virus. His daughter and himself survived through the raging of the disease.

A team of medical people in CDC led by Dr. Ellis Cheever in searching of the vaccine and the root of where the virus started to spread. A few girls got involved working for him, a girl search for the root in Hong Kong, the other one doing the same in Chicago but she was infected in the end.

My opinion
I would not say this is a must watch show and apparently this might not be a good show for those who expect a lot of actions, car chases and explosions. Anyway, this is indeed a good movie to expose many of us in the medical terms and procedure. What I must agree from this movie is that bloggers actually has a very powerful influence to the media and one character in this movie actually was bailed by one his readers. This shows that the print media is getting lesser and lesser influential compared to social media like Facebook, Twitter and blogs…

Although this is not an action packed movie but some of the scenes were actually hanging. They did not manage to show what happened to the village people in China and why is the girl being captive ran. I supposed she's running to inform the village about the fake vaccine. The girl who were hired by Dr. Ellis Cheever infected with the virus and laying down in the bed waiting for people to help her. The blogger who his readers called as the prophet was bailed out from the police station but they never show what happened to him after that and how did he avoid being infected by the virus which he thought that he was cured by Phyllis.

Opinion from friends
"Okay lo… I think so so la… not to complicated the story line."
"I kinda enjoy it actually, it's really an eye opening."

My rating: 5/10
