Magical Musicals Gala Premiere

Some of you might know that I am a musical theater  person and I have seen a lot of very good quality musicals over the years and this time I felt very privileged to be given a chance to attend the Magical Musicals Gala Premiere on the 10th June, the Amphitheatre at Sunway Lagoon.

That very place is most likely a doorway into a magical world full of music and wonder as it hosts its second musical production, Magical Musicals after Peter Pan the Musical last year. The musical traces the lives of six aspiring performers who come together at a Broadway audition in New York and become fast friends. Their world is literally a giant stage, and they find themselves willing actors on it, dancing to whatever tune Fate has in store for them.

My date and I reached Sunway Lagoon at about 7.30pm and we met up with Isaac and wife to queue together. It was quite a long journey to get into the theater hall so I really do think that this will be a problem for the elders but for young people, it's a really good walking exercise if you had not worked out for a very long time.

A pictures of us. From left to right: Isaac & wife, myself, Caroline & Jolyn.

From what I heard earlier on, the audiences will be thrilled as they follow these three couples chasing their dreams, turning optimistic hopes into reality. As music forms an integral part of their lives, it is only fitting that their story unfolds in a series of songs that have come to embody the heart and soul of Broadway. Every emotion is explored through musicals hits like Mamma Mia!, Dreamgirls, Fame, Saturday Night Fever, Moulin Rouge!, Grease, Footloose, We Will Rock You, West Side Story, and Hairspray.

The things that really attracted me are the set up and also the costumes that they did for the musical. It was really well done and full of colors and lights! You can actually bring your camera into the theater hall no matter if it's a handphone camera, digital camera or DSLR. You are even allowed to bring your own food and drinks although they are selling them there as well. This will not happen in any other professional theater which I had attended.

The only thing that I concern through out the musical is the half naked men dancing and also the visibility of seeing the undergarments of the actresses and dancers. I think this might be a little kid-unfriendly but I do enjoyed the dance and singing a lot. The most epic part is when they sing Jai Ho and they did the We Will Rock You as well which was too random in my point of view. Amanda Salmon, who plays Stephanie in Magical Musicals, was especially amazing, displaying her strong vocal abilities during a number that she sang which had the audience applauding at the end of it.

The gala premiere ended with the customary photography session, with the dancers cheerfully posing for the various media outlets as they entertained questions and queries. Based on this brief preview, Magical Musicals is set to be a rousing success, most probably surpassing Sunway Lagoon’s previous effort, Peter Pan the Musical.
